Questions & Answers
How can I tell whether my Volkswagen is covered?
Coverage applies only to specific vehicle identification numbers, or VINs. Use the VIN lookup on the settlement website or contact the administrator.
- The vehicle must be a covered model-year 2018-2022 Volkswagen Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport with a 3.6-liter engine.
- It must have been purchased or leased in the United States or Puerto Rico.
- The exclusions in the notice still apply.
What does the extended warranty cover?
Beginning July 6, 2026, the extension covers 80% of an authorized Volkswagen dealer's parts-and-labor cost for a failed main engine water pump. The extension is transferable while its time and mileage limits remain.
- Coverage runs for up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles from the in-service date, whichever comes first.
- The original warranty terms and exclusions still apply.
- Repairs not performed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer are not covered by the warranty extension.
Which earlier repair costs may qualify for reimbursement?
The claim benefit concerns unreimbursed repair expenses paid before July 6, 2026 and within 8.5 years or 85,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date.
- 80% of one qualifying main engine water-pump repair per covered vehicle.
- 80% of up to two head-gasket repairs when the repair record says the work was due to a coolant leak or low coolant.
- For non-dealer work, the invoice amount used in the calculation is capped at $820 for a water-pump repair and $3,325 for a head-gasket repair.
What records must I send with a reimbursement claim?
Mail a completed, signed, and dated Claim Form with all records that apply to your request.
- A repair invoice or record showing the claimant, vehicle and VIN, repair facility, date, mileage, work performed, parts and labor, and amount charged.
- Proof of the amount you paid.
- Proof that you owned or leased the vehicle at the time of repair if the notice was sent to someone else.
- For a head-gasket claim, a record tying that work to a coolant leak or low coolant.
- For certain non-dealer repairs during the original warranty, proof that an authorized dealer was first asked and declined or could not do the repair free; a sworn declaration may substitute if records are unavailable.
Can another reimbursement or vehicle misuse reduce or defeat my claim?
Yes. The settlement is limited to unreimbursed qualifying repairs and excludes several causes of failure.
- Goodwill payments, insurance, extended warranties, service contracts, or other reimbursements reduce the settlement reimbursement.
- A fully free or fully reimbursed repair receives no additional payment.
- Repairs caused by abuse, misuse, modification, collision, vandalism, outside impact, or failure to use recommended coolant do not qualify.
How and when do I submit a reimbursement claim?
Claims must be mailed; the notice does not describe online claim submission. Keep a copy of the completed form and supporting records.
- Get the Claim Form from the settlement website or administrator.
- Complete and sign it under penalty of perjury.
- Mail it with the required documents so it is postmarked by October 5, 2026.
What happens if I do nothing?
You remain bound by the settlement and its release if it receives final approval. You may still receive the warranty extension when eligible, but you will not receive reimbursement for an earlier repair unless you submit a valid claim by the deadline.
How were opting out and objecting different?
The notice set August 5, 2026 as the deadline for both options. Those deadlines have passed.
- Opting out meant leaving the settlement, receiving no settlement benefits, and preserving the ability to pursue released claims separately.
- Objecting meant staying in the class while telling the Court why the settlement, requested fees, or service awards should not be approved.
When will a valid reimbursement be paid?
The notice says an approved valid claim is mailed within 150 days after the later of receipt of the complete claim or the settlement's effective date. Court approval and any appeals can affect timing.
