Just4Veterans VA Fee Settlement: Refunds and Forgiveness

Who may be included in the settlement?

• The Settlement Class covers veterans charged a J4V fee connected with a VA disability claim on or after September 20, 2020.
• It excludes J4V officers, owners, employees, and contractors; court staff; and people who properly ask to be excluded.
• Being sent this notice means J4V’s records show a charge, but the notice says only that you may be entitled to benefits.

What must I do to seek a cash payment?

• You must have been charged and paid a J4V fee during the Class Period.
• You must file a valid Claim Form by the deadline and stay in the settlement rather than opting out.
• The notice does not identify what supporting documents, if any, a claimant must provide with the form.

How will cash payments be calculated?

• Cash payments are divided proportionally based on what each approved claimant paid J4V.
• No payment can be more than the amount that claimant paid J4V.
• Attorneys’ fees or service awards that the court approves from the fund would reduce the money available for payments. The notice does not state a fixed individual payment amount.

What happens if I was charged a fee but never paid it?

• The notice says you do not need to file a Claim Form for this benefit.
• J4V will discharge the alleged unpaid obligation, give up its claimed right to collect it, and cannot pursue collection or a lawsuit for those fees.
• This stated benefit applies to Class Members charged during the Class Period who never paid the fee.

What happens if I do nothing?

• If you paid a fee, doing nothing will not result in a cash payment.
• If you were charged but never paid, the notice says the alleged fee obligation is forgiven automatically.
• In either situation, staying in the settlement means giving up the right to bring your own lawsuit against the defendants over the claims released by the settlement.

How do I opt out, or leave the settlement?

• To leave the settlement, send a signed written exclusion request postmarked by September 3, 2026.
• Include your name, address, email, telephone number, and a clear statement that you want to be excluded.
• If you opt out, you receive no settlement benefits and are not bound by the settlement. The notice says you may pursue your own lawsuit at your own expense.

How can I object to the settlement?

• You may object only if you remain in the settlement.
• Your objection must be filed with the court and mailed to both sides’ counsel by September 3, 2026.
• It must give your contact information, say whether you have a lawyer, explain your specific reasons, include documents you plan to rely on, and state whether you intend to attend the hearing.

What is the Final Fairness Hearing?

• The court hearing is scheduled for October 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., at the Circuit Court for Montgomery County in Rockville, Maryland.
• The court will consider whether to approve the settlement, the allocation plan, requested attorneys’ fees and service awards, and objections.
• You may attend at your own expense. You may speak only if you timely objected in writing and said you intended to appear.

How can I get and submit a Claim Form?

• The notice states a Claim Form deadline of October 5, 2026.
• You can obtain a form on the settlement website, by calling the toll-free number, or by emailing the Settlement Administrator.
• For an online claim, the notice says to use the Unique ID and Password printed at the top of your notice. It also says a claim may be postmarked, but it does not expressly give a mailing address for submitting a completed Claim Form.

When will payments be sent?

• The settlement is proposed and still needs final court approval before it becomes final and effective.
• The notice does not provide a date for sending cash payments after approval.
• It says settlement administration costs are paid separately by the defendants.
