Central Maine Data Security Settlement

Who Is Included

U.S. residents whose Private Information may have been impacted in the Data Incident and who received an individual notice from Defendants saying they were affected. Excludes Defendants’ directors and officers, governmental entities, the assigned judge, the judge’s immediate family, and Court staff.

  • Proof required: Documented-loss claims require reasonable documentation of losses traceable to the Data Incident; expenses reimbursed by another source are not reimbursed. Alternate Cash does not require loss documentation, but a timely and valid Claim Form is required for all benefits.

  • You are not included if you are a director or officer of the Defendants, a government entity, the assigned judge or the judge’s immediate family, or Court staff.

  • Choose either documented-loss reimbursement or Alternate Cash; you cannot receive both cash options.
  • For documented losses, you can seek up to $5,000 for losses tied to the Data Incident, with reasonable documentation.
  • Alternate Cash is an estimated $50 payment and does not require loss documentation.
  • The settlement will not pay an expense that another source already reimbursed. If a documented-loss claim lacks reasonable documentation, or is invalid and not cured, it will be processed as an Alternate Cash claim.

Can I get medical-records monitoring as well as a cash payment?

  • Yes. You may request one year of free Medical Records Monitoring in addition to either documented-loss reimbursement or Alternate Cash.
  • You still need to submit a Claim Form for monitoring.

  • No cash amount is guaranteed. The estimated $50 Alternate Cash payment and any documented-loss payment may go up or down.
  • The settlement pays for Medical Records Monitoring from the Net Settlement Fund before cash payments. Any change to cash payments is made by the same percentage for all cash payments.

  • Submit a timely, valid Claim Form online or mail it to the Settlement Administrator at the address on the form.
  • Online claims must be submitted by September 28, 2026. Mailed claims must be postmarked by September 28, 2026.
  • The notice cautions that mail may receive its postmark after it is dropped off, so allow extra time or obtain a manual postmark.

  • Benefits are provided only after the Court approves the settlement and it becomes final.
  • The notice does not give a payment date.

  • Leaving the settlement is called opting out or excluding yourself. You will not receive settlement benefits, but you will not be bound by the settlement and may keep the right to pursue your own claim about the released claims.
  • To opt out, mail a written request with your contact information, your personal physical signature, and a statement that you want to be excluded. It must be postmarked by September 13, 2026.
  • You cannot opt out by phone or email.

  • You may object only if you remain in the settlement; a person who opts out cannot object.
  • A written objection must be filed with the Court and mailed to Class Counsel, Defendants’ Counsel, and the Settlement Administrator by September 13, 2026. The notice lists detailed information that an objection must include, including your signature.
