Suffolk County Red-Light Camera Fee Settlement

The payment is not a guaranteed $36 per fee. It depends on submitting a valid claim and may be reduced if the total valid claims are more than the available benefits fund.

• You can request up to $36 for each qualifying $30 administrative fee you paid.
• The amount can be reduced proportionally if all valid claims together exceed the $45 million maximum available for class-member payments.
• The notice says the County Defendants will separately pay administration costs, court-approved lawyers’ fees and costs, and the class representative’s award. Those amounts are not stated to come from the $45 million payment fund.

A valid, timely Claim Form is required to receive money. The notice does not state what supporting documents, if any, must accompany the claim form.

• Submit a Claim Form online by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on December 8, 2026, or mail it so it is postmarked by December 8, 2026.
• Mailed claims go to McGrath v. Suffolk County, et al., c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324.

Opting out means leaving the settlement. It is different from objecting: a person who opts out cannot object because the settlement no longer affects them.

• You will not receive settlement benefits.
• You keep the right to bring your own lawsuit against the County Defendants about the claims resolved by this settlement.
• Your written exclusion request must include your full name, address, phone number, a clear statement that you want to opt out, and your signature.
• You must mail the request to the settlement administrator, class counsel, and the County Defendants’ counsel. It must be postmarked no later than November 9, 2026.

An objection tells the Court what you disagree with about the settlement. You may still submit a Claim Form if you object.

• Only class members who do not opt out may object.
• A written objection must identify the case, provide your Class Member ID and contact details, include information or documents showing you are a class member, explain the specific objection, and be signed.
• To be heard at the hearing, file or mail the objection to the court clerk by November 9, 2026. Mail copies to the settlement administrator, class counsel, and the County Defendants’ counsel by that date.

The hearing date is not a payment date. The notice says the hearing date and time may change without further notice.

• The Court is scheduled to hold the Fairness Hearing on December 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, at the Supreme Court of New York, Suffolk County, 1 Court Street, Riverhead, NY 11901.
• You do not have to attend the hearing.
• Payments are expected only after final approval and after any appeals are resolved. The notice does not give a specific payment date.

Taking no action does not preserve the right to sue over the claims covered by this settlement. To request money, a class member must submit a valid, timely Claim Form.

• You will not be eligible for a cash payment.
• You will be bound by the settlement’s releases, meaning you give up the right to start, continue, or join another lawsuit against the County Defendants and released parties about the legal issues resolved by this settlement.
