Questions & Answers

What benefits can I claim?

Eligible claimants may request more than one benefit. The available benefits are two years of credit monitoring, reimbursement for qualifying out-of-pocket losses, and a one-time cash payment. The cash amount is expected to be $75 for California residents and $25 for other residents, but it can change based on the number of claims.

The settlement has a $150,000 fund. Court-approved fees, costs, a service award, and administration costs come out first. If the remaining fund is not enough to cover the benefits claimed, payments are reduced proportionally.

What does the credit-monitoring benefit include?

All Class Members may enroll in two years of monitoring from one credit bureau. It includes credit-file monitoring, dark-web scanning, public-records monitoring, up to $1 million in identity-theft insurance, and access to a fraud-resolution agent if suspicious activity occurs.

What expenses can be reimbursed, and what proof do I need?

You can seek up to $2,000 for actual out-of-pocket expenses caused by the incident if the loss occurred from September 1, 2023 through December 1, 2026. Examples include credit-report or credit-monitoring fees, credit-freeze fees, replacement-ID costs, and postage used to contact banks.

You need documents, such as receipts, showing the amount you spent or lost. Notes or papers you prepared yourself may help explain other evidence, but cannot support the claim by themselves.

Do I need documents to request the cash payment?

The one-time cash payment does not require proof or an explanation. It is expected to be $75 if you are a California resident and $25 otherwise. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed amount, because the amount may go up or down depending on the total claims filed.

How do I request benefits, and what is the deadline?

You must submit a valid Claim Form to receive any settlement benefit. You can submit online, download a form and mail it, or contact the Settlement Administrator to request a paper form.

Online claims must be submitted by December 1, 2026. Mailed claims must be completed and signed, include any supporting documentation that applies to the claim, and be postmarked by that date.

When will benefits be sent?

Payments and other benefits will be issued only if the Court gives final approval and after any appeals are resolved. The notice does not give a payment date because it is unknown whether there will be appeals or how long they may take.

What happens if I opt out?

Opting out means formally leaving the settlement. You will not receive settlement benefits, but you keep any rights you may have to bring your own case against GeoTek about the issues involved. A request to opt out must contain the case name, your name and mailing address, your personal signature, and a clear statement that you want to be excluded.

Mail the request to the Settlement Administrator. The notice also permits submission or email. It must be submitted, postmarked, or emailed by November 1, 2026.

Can I object to the settlement or attend the court hearing?

If you remain in the settlement, you may object by explaining in writing why you think the Court should not approve it. You cannot object after opting out. To be considered, an objection must be filed with the Clerk of Court and a copy must be sent to the Settlement Administrator by November 1, 2026.

The final approval hearing is scheduled for December 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time in Department 64 at the San Diego courthouse. You do not have to attend.

What source limits or inconsistencies should I know about?

The official notice contains wording that does not line up cleanly in every place. We have not guessed at a resolution; check the notice and confirm important details before acting.

  • The notice defines the class to include current and former GeoTek employees whose information was affected, but separately excludes GeoTek employees. It does not resolve how that exclusion applies to current employees.
