Cosco Fire Protection Employment Applicant Settlement

This settlement covers certain people who applied for a Washington-based Cosco Fire Protection job from January 1, 2023, through July 26, 2025. The application must have responded to a posting on Cosco’s website or Indeed.com that did not list the wage scale or salary range for the person hired. The notice says Cosco’s records indicate that recipients are class members, but you may contact the Settlement Administrator if you are unsure.

Leaving the settlement by the October 23, 2026 deadline means you will not receive a payment.

Class members who stay in the settlement are eligible for an equal share of the Class Fund. The notice leaves the estimated individual payment blank, so it does not state a dollar amount for any one person.

The total Common Fund is $332,000. Court-approved attorneys’ fees, costs and expenses, and a service award for the class representative are to be paid from the Settlement Fund. That means the notice does not guarantee a particular payment amount.

The notice does not describe a claim form or ask class members to submit documents to establish their payment. Instead, it says eligible people who do not exclude themselves will receive payment if the Court approves the settlement.

To help receive payment, make sure the Settlement Administrator has your current mailing address. You can contact the administrator or send the Address Form by mail or email. The notice also provides a Login ID and PIN for choosing a payment method; requested changes should be made by October 23, 2026.

Payment is not due unless the Court approves the settlement and it becomes final. If that happens, payments will be sent after appeals and other reviews, if any, are finished. The notice does not provide a payment date.

A payment becomes void 180 days after it is issued.

The notice says settlement payments will be treated as non-wage damages and reported on a 1099. It does not give further tax guidance.

You may exclude yourself, meaning leave the settlement, by mailing a signed exclusion request postmarked no later than October 23, 2026. It must state your full name and address and clearly say that you want to be excluded.

You cannot exclude yourself by phone or email, and each person must send their own request. If you exclude yourself, you will not receive a settlement payment, but you will not give up the released claims in this case.

If you remain in the settlement, you may object by filing a written objection with King County Superior Court by October 23, 2026. You must also mail copies and any supporting documents to both Class Counsel and Cosco’s attorneys by that date.

The notice requires specific information, including your contact details, the reasons for the objection, whether you or your lawyer plan to appear at the hearing, certain information about prior class-settlement objections, and a signature and date. You cannot object if you exclude yourself.

If the settlement receives final approval and you do not exclude yourself, you give up claims based on the alleged failure to include required pay transparency information in covered job postings during January 1, 2023 through July 26, 2025. This includes claims related to wage scale or salary range and benefits or other compensation information described in the notice.

The notice says this release does not waive claims outside the release. Excluding yourself on time keeps you from being bound by this release.

The Court’s final approval hearing is scheduled for December 18, 2026, at 8:30 A.M. at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, Washington. The notice also gives a Zoom link for remote attendance.

You do not have to attend. A timely written objection that meets the notice’s requirements will be considered even if you do not come. The hearing date or time may change by court order.
