Questions & Answers

Who is included in this settlement?

The settlement is for qualifying truck purchasers and lessees, not everyone who owns a Dodge Ram. The notice says that an eligible truck can still receive the warranty-extension benefit even if it has not had a problem.

  • It covers people who bought or leased in the United States a Model Year 2014–2019 Dodge Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Truck made between June 12, 2013 and October 23, 2019.
  • You do not need to have had an EGR cooler problem or a truck fire to be part of the class. But the reimbursement and fire benefits have their own requirements.
  • Some people are excluded, including people who timely leave the settlement and current or former owners who already released related claims in an individual settlement with FCA US.

How does the EGR cooler warranty extension work?

The warranty extension is different from a cash claim. No settlement paperwork is needed to receive this extension.

  • The extension covers parts and labor to repair a failed EGR cooler for five years from the truck’s EGR cooler replacement under Recall VB1.
  • It stays with the truck rather than with a particular owner or lessee.
  • If covered repair work is needed while the extension remains in effect as of the settlement’s Effective Date, the notice says an FCA US authorized dealership can perform the repair without a settlement document.
  • The notice says that the regular warranty terms and exclusions still apply except for the extension’s time limit.

What expenses may be reimbursed, and are the amounts limited?

The notice does not state a separate per-truck dollar limit for towing costs. The $750,000 cap applies to the tow, rental-car, and coolant program as a whole.

  • The notice offers reimbursement for out-of-pocket towing, rental-car, and coolant expenses tied to a failed EGR cooler.
  • Rental-car reimbursement is limited to $500 per eligible truck. Coolant reimbursement is limited to $75.
  • The total available for all claims in these three expense categories is $750,000. If valid claims exceed that amount, payments in this program will be reduced proportionally.
  • A claim needs ownership documentation, proof that you paid the expense, and repair records linking the expense to a contemporaneous repair of a failed EGR cooler. Claims without third-party verification records will be rejected.

What is needed for the $3,000 truck-fire payment?

A fire claim requires records both showing that there was a fire and connecting its cause to the EGR cooler. The notice says claims without third-party records for verification will be rejected.

  • The payment is $3,000 for a fire in an eligible truck that was caused by a failed EGR cooler.
  • You must provide ownership documentation and a completed Claim Form.
  • A police, insurance, or fire-department report can document the fire.
  • A police, insurance, fire-department, or vehicle-repair record must also link the cause to an EGR cooler or to an origin in the EGR cooler area.

How and when do I submit a reimbursement or fire claim?

Do not send reimbursement requests or truck-fire Claim Forms to class counsel or the court.

  • For towing, rental-car, coolant, and truck-fire requests, use a completed Claim Form and send the claim to the Settlement Administrator by U.S. mail, email, or through the settlement website.
  • The deadline for reimbursement requests and fire claims is May 16, 2026.
  • For an out-of-pocket EGR cooler repair, the notice requires proof of the repair and proof of payment by May 16, 2026. However, it gives inconsistent submission directions for this particular request; see the issue noted above.

Can I fix a deficient claim?

Keep copies of the Claim Form and supporting records. The notice requires third-party records to verify claims.

  • If a towing, rental-car, coolant, or fire claim is found deficient and rejected during review, the Settlement Administrator will notify the class member in writing.
  • The notice provides 30 days from that written notice to correct the problem.
  • The notice does not state a similar correction process for an EGR cooler repair reimbursement request.

When would approved claims be paid?

The March 17, 2026 hearing is when the court is scheduled to consider approval. It is not a promised payment date.

  • Payments do not have a set date.
  • They will begin only after the court finally approves the settlement and any appeals are completed.
  • Objections or appeals can delay payment.

What happens if I stay in the settlement or opt out?

Opting out means leaving the settlement. It preserves the ability to pursue your own case about the claims this settlement resolves, but it also means giving up all settlement benefits.

  • If you stay in the class, the settlement would prevent you from suing, continuing to sue, or joining another lawsuit against FCA US over the EGR-cooler claims being resolved.
  • The release does not prevent claims for death, personal injury, damage to tangible property other than the eligible truck, or subrogation.
  • To leave the settlement, mail a personally signed exclusion letter with your name, address, truck model year and VIN, approximate purchase or lease dates, and a clear request to be excluded. It must be postmarked by February 8, 2026.
  • A person who leaves the settlement cannot receive its benefits or object to it.
