Automatic New

No claim required

Who qualifies?

U.S. residents who participated in Casey’s Employee Health Care Benefit Plan and paid tobacco surcharges from January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2025. Current and former participants can qualify; Iowa residency is not required.

How much could I receive?

An automatic share of the net $5.1 million settlement, proportional to the tobacco surcharges you paid during the class period after subtracting refunds. Individual amounts vary.

Do I need supporting documents?

No claim form or supporting claim documents are required for the automatic payment.

Do I need a notice ID or PIN?

No claim ID or PIN is needed to file for payment because there is no claim to submit. Requirements for optional address or payment-method changes are not established in the saved notice.

What is the deadline?

There is no claim deadline because payment is automatic. The September 28, 2026 objection deadline has passed; it was not a payment-claim deadline.

What do I need to do?

No claim is needed. If the settlement becomes final, a check will be mailed to your last known address. Update your address through the settlement administrator if it has changed.

When will checks arrive, and how long can I cash mine?

No payment date is fixed. Checks follow final approval and resolution of appeals; each check is valid for 200 days after issue.

How will my payment amount be figured?

  • The payment pool is not divided equally. Your share is tied to the tobacco surcharges you actually paid during the class period, after subtracting any refunds of those surcharges.
  • The $5.1 million fund also pays settlement administration, an independent fiduciary’s review, and any Court-approved lawyers’ fees, costs, and awards to the class representatives. That means the amount available for class payments will be less than the full fund.
  • The notice does not state a dollar amount or percentage that any individual will receive. The detailed allocation method is to be provided in the Settlement Agreement before the fairness hearing.

Who is included, including former employees or people outside Iowa?

  • The class definition covers people residing in the United States who paid the surcharge while participating in the Plan during the stated period.
  • The notice says you do not need to live in Iowa to receive a benefit.

What happens if I do not cash my check?

  • No claim form is required. If the settlement becomes final, checks will be mailed to class members’ last known addresses.
  • A check is valid for 200 days from its issue date. The notice says uncashed-check funds will be handled under the Court-approved Plan of Allocation, but it does not give further details in this notice.

Can I keep my own lawsuit instead of being part of the settlement?

  • You cannot opt out, meaning you cannot leave this settlement class.
  • If the Court approves the settlement, class members release the covered claims against Casey’s and the other released parties. The notice directs readers to the Settlement Agreement for the full definition of those claims.
  • You may still object or submit comments to the Court.

How do I object or comment, and do I need to attend the hearing?

  • A written objection must be postmarked by September 28, 2026 and sent to the Court, Class Counsel, and Casey’s counsel at the addresses in the notice.
  • It should identify the case, give your contact information, state your position, and include the other information listed in Question 15 of the notice. The notice also allows a person to raise an objection or comment by appearing at the fairness hearing.
  • The hearing is scheduled for October 26, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. Central Time in Des Moines, Iowa. You do not have to attend for a timely written objection to be considered. The date, time, or location may change by court order.
