Shimano Hollowtech II Crankset Settlement: Warranty and Repair Pay

Who is included, and which cranksets count?

• The class covers people and entities that purchased, received, were given, or owned a qualifying crankset in the United States, as long as it was not solely for resale. Owning a bicycle that came with one counts.
• The qualifying products are the five listed Ultegra and Dura-Ace models made before July 2019 with one of the production codes listed in the notice. The notice directs readers to recall materials for help locating the code.
• The presiding judge, that judge’s staff and immediate family, and people who validly opt out are excluded.

What does the automatic warranty extension cover?

• The extension lasts until July 29, 2027, but only for bonding separation and delamination. It does not extend every type of warranty coverage.
• It applies to Designated Cranksets that are otherwise covered by Shimano’s Express Warranty. No Claim Form is needed for this extension.
• Delamination means early separation where the crank body and cover are bonded. The notice says corrosion and breaking can be evidence of it.

What is the enhanced inspection benefit?

• Shimano will provide participating recall retailers with better lighting and magnification, an enhanced inspection manual, and staff support. Retailers also must confirm they reviewed and will use the inspection materials.
• For a crankset that passes inspection, retailers are to make information available about signs to watch, hear, and feel for that could indicate a problem.
• The notice says consumers were advised under the voluntary recall to contact a Shimano-authorized retailer in the United States to schedule a free inspection. It does not set out a separate individual application process for the enhanced-inspection measures.

When might replacement and installation costs be reimbursed?

• You may request reasonable out-of-pocket costs to buy a replacement crankset and install it, but only if you replaced the Designated Crankset because it separated, delaminated, or showed evidence of either problem.
• You cannot be reimbursed if the replacement happened on or after September 21, 2023. You also cannot be reimbursed if the original Express Warranty had not expired when you replaced it.
• For Ultegra FC-6800 and FC-R8000, the stated original warranty period was two years from the original retail purchase. For Dura-Ace FC-9000, FC-R9100, and FC-R9100-P, it was three years.

How do I request reimbursement, and what proof does the notice require?

• To request reimbursement, submit a timely and valid Claim Form with supporting documentation. The notice does not specify which particular records qualify as supporting documentation.
• You may submit online by August 4, 2026, or mail the form to the Settlement Administrator at the address on the Claim Form with an August 4, 2026 postmark.
• A Claim Form is not needed for the warranty extension.

What is the difference between opting out and objecting?

• Leaving the settlement, also called opting out, means giving up both settlement benefits but keeping your own right to sue about the released claims. An exclusion request needs your name, crankset serial number, and a clear statement that you want to be excluded.
• You may mail an exclusion request, or email it to [email protected]. The notice gives December 29, 2025 as the deadline. It says email requests must be received by that date and mailed requests must be postmarked by that date.
• Objecting is different: you stay in the settlement and tell the Court what you disagree with. You cannot object if you opt out.

What happens if I do nothing, and when could reimbursement arrive?

• If you remain in the settlement and do nothing, you will not receive reimbursement for replacement and installation costs.
• The notice says you will still receive the extended-warranty benefit, but you will be bound by the settlement if it is approved and becomes final. That includes giving up the released claims against the defendants and released persons.
• Reimbursement, if a timely and valid claim is approved, is to be provided after court approval and after the settlement becomes final. The notice does not give a payment date.
